The first was what you wrote about the Devil making us busy so that we will not have enough time for God. That is something I have struggled with a lot since I started college. It seems like there is never enough time to do anything including quiet time, and I started to notice that my attitude was getting really bad because of it. It was not so much that I would get angry or mean, it was more of a sad irritable thing...if that makes any sense. Lately, I've been trying to make more time to spend with Him...and surprisingly I've been able to! I still don't spend as much time as I would like reading the Bible, praying, or worshiping, but even a little bit makes a HUGE difference.

The other thing that stood out was the last part of the verse about the seed that landed among the thorns. It says "...it becomes unfruitful.” I don't think I've thought of the change quite like this before. The seed wasn't originally unfruitful, but it BECAME unfruitful because it was consumed by things of the world. It's too easy to be fruitful and then let "stuff" get in the way. Thanks for the blog. These are very challenging words.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25334013.post-49366509131375602992007-11-02T07:46:00.000-05:002007-11-02T07:46:00.000-05:00I'm glad it encouraged you to trust God, Ryan! It was a good thing for me to read today, as I'm busy thinking about student loans and worrying about not having enough to go to school.

When I think about it, if I'm putting God first then I will be able to accept that He has a purpose if I can't go to school this year. Also, if I really feel that God is calling me to this particular bible college, I should have faith that he will make it possible.
So, it's good to be reminded that sometimes things are as simple as trusting in God, our Provider.Ryanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05270181839932269993noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25334013.post-593429851259514902007-10-25T16:10:00.000-05:002007-10-25T16:10:00.000-05:00Well, Michelle... if your heart is truly for God t...Well, Michelle... if your heart is truly for God to use you, then I'm sure He'll be doing some weeding for you as well, whether you pray those exact words or not! I think the weeding "looks" like different things to different people... so if you make that the cry of your heart, there's no telling how might choose to do that great work in you!

I do know one thing... you'll be happier once He's done it! Like you said... the "blessings" and the "good" that God has promised, are often spiritual ones first. It would not be loving for God to bless us materially at the expense of our spiritual growth!

Thanks for commenting!Kathleen MacIverhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02263212018219137277noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-25334013.post-62589780669837845472007-10-25T16:07:00.000-05:002007-10-25T16:07:00.000-05:00This is a great post, Katie. This post really caught my attention because it's something I've been thinking a lot about for the last couple years. Does it seem to you there is a huge focus on material prosperity in the American church? I think perhaps the focus starts with good intentions: money can be a tool for serving God. And I know God wants to bless us, but I'm more and more convinced that blessing does not always equal more money. And the tool has become and end in itself. I have watched people close to me becoming successful in the world's eyes, but they do not seem as fruitful in their spiritual lives. And unfortunately I see the same lack of fruit in my life.
You put those thoughts together perfectly with the parable of the sower.
It also reminds me very much of the message in Revelation to the church of Laodicea: Rev. 3:17-18 "Because thou sayest, I am rich, and have gotten riches, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art the wretched one and miserable and poor and blind and naked; I counsel thee to buy of me gold refined by fire, that thou mayest become rich; and white garments, that thou mayest clothe thyself, and that the shame of thy nakedness be not made manifest; and eyesalve to anoint thine eyes, that thou mayest see."
Should I pray for God to take away some of my distractions and make me fruitful instead?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
